Tropical, tangy, and naturally vibrant—Passion Fruit Juice is summer in a glass! Whether you’re using fresh passion fruit or frozen pulp, this drink is easy to make and incredibly refreshing.

Homemade juice is actually so easy to make! Since I started living in Ecuador, I realized how much better homemade juices are than store-bought juice. And I know people say juice has too much sugar in it, but when you make it at home you know exactly what is going into it! When you use fresh fruit, you can avoid adding a lot of sugar like you might find in the store bought versions. Plus, you can use your sweetener of choice!
This passion fruit juice is a refreshing drink full of tropical flavors that I just know you're going to love. It is kid-friendly and perfect to serve at your next back yard barbecue or get together!
My recipe for passion fruit juice is the easiest way to make it, and if you can't find passion fruits at the store, don't worry. You can use frozen passion fruit pulp instead! It comes in different forms, from pulp to puree. You can get it on Amazon, or at grocery stores like Instacart, Walmart or Sprout's.
What is Passion Fruit Juice?
Passion fruit juice is a tropical beverage made by blending the pulp of passion fruit with water and sugar. The result is a sweet-tart drink that’s fragrant, flavorful, and packed with vitamin C. It’s popular in many Latin American and Caribbean countries where fresh juice is abundant. In South America, is is referred to as jugo de maracuya. It is often served chilled over ice, making it perfect for hot summer days!

Ingredients
You just need a handful of ingredients to make this easy passion fruit juice recipe. Here's what you'll need:

- Passion fruit (2 yellow or 4–5 purple passion fruits): Yellow passion fruits are typically larger and more tart, while purple ones are sweeter. Can’t find fresh fruit? Use about 7 oz of frozen passion fruit pulp or passion fruit puree for a super convenient shortcut.
- Water: This dilutes the strong, tart flavor of the fruit and creates a drinkable juice.
- Sugar: Adjust based on your personal preference and the sweetness of the fruit. You can start with ¼ cup and add more after tasting.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Homemade Passion Fruit Juice
- Prep the Pulp: If using whole passion fruits, cut them in half and scoop out the pulp.
- Combine Ingredients: In a blender, add at least 2 cups of water, the passionfruit pulp, and sugar. Add to taste, I would start with about ¼ cup and add more if needed.
- Blend: Blend until smooth. If you don't have a blender, you can also use a food processor!
- Strain: Pour the mixture over a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl or pitcher. Add the juice to a large pitcher, then add the remaining water and any additional sugar and stir.
- Serve: Serve over ice cubes and enjoy!

Tips for Success
- Start small with sugar. Passion fruit can vary in sweetness, so taste the juice before adding more sugar!
- Use cold water, or allow the juice to chill a bit before serving.
- Blend gently if your blender is powerful—over-blending can break down the seeds, making them harder to strain out.
- Strain well for a smooth texture. Don't skip straining, since passion fruits have crunchy black seeds in them that aren't pleasant in the drink. A fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth works best to get rid of the passion fruit seeds.

Recipe Variations
- Simple syrup instead of sugar: Dissolve 1 part sugar in 1 part water and use this instead of granulated sugar—it blends in instantly.
- Alternative sweeteners: You can use low calorie sweeteners like stevia if you prefer, but add little by little to avoid making the juice overly sweet. Liquid sweeteners like honey or agave nectar would also work well.
- Frozen passion fruit juice concentrate: A great option if you can’t find fresh passion fruit. Use about 7 oz for this recipe, or double the recipe and use 14-15 oz. If the pulp you are using has no seeds in it, you can skip the straining step!
- Add fresh mint: Blend a few mint leaves with the juice or muddle them in each glass for a cooling flavor.
- Tropical fruit blend: Add mango, pineapple, or orange juice for an extra fruity drink.
- Sparkling passionfruit juice: Replace 1–2 cups of water with sparkling water right before serving!

Storage
Store leftover passion fruit juice in the fridge in an airtight container like a jar or pitcher for up to 3 days. Stir before serving, as natural separation may occur. It’s also freezer-friendly—just pour into ice cube trays and thaw as needed.
