hey there!
¡Hola! I'm Lauren!
I’m so glad you’re here! I’m Lauren— a food lover, culinary grad, and content creator living in the Andes of Ecuador. Lauren con Sazón is my way of sharing the vibrant and comforting flavors of Ecuadorian cooking with you!

Welcome to Lauren con Sazón
My journey with food truly began while serving in the Peace Corps in Santo Domingo, Ecuador. Living with my host family (¡gracias, Montaluisas!) introduced me to a way of life where food isn’t just consumed—it’s grown, raised, and shared with deep care. Our backyard had papayas, bananas, and chickens, and that close relationship with ingredients sparked something in me. I realized that the heart of any culture is found in its food.
From the Andes to the Kitchen
After the Peace Corps, I returned to Colorado and enrolled in culinary school to dive deeper into the craft. Now, I’m back in Ecuador, living in Cuenca with my fiancé Carlos, and continuing my delicious education in Ecuadorian cuisine—this time, one home-cooked meal at a time.

Why Ecuadorian Food?
Ecuadorian food way too underrated! Since living here, it has become my comfort and joy. The flavors here are bold, fresh, and rooted in tradition. Through Lauren con Sazón, I want to share the dishes that locals love and that I’ve fallen in love with too. Think hearty soups, spicy ají, plantains cooked every which way, and tropical fruits you’ve maybe never heard of but will definitely want to try!
Ecuadorian Favorites

I care deeply about sharing these recipes with as much authenticity as possible. Many of the dishes you’ll find here are made in collaboration with Ecuadorian friends and family who generously share their knowledge, techniques, and secrets. That said, I’m always open to learning more!
If you have feedback or suggestions about a dish, I’d love to hear from you. Please reach out—I want this blog to be a space that celebrates tradition, invites curiosity, and keeps learning.
My goal is simple: to bring you a taste of Ecuador and Latin America that’s rooted in love, tradition, and a little sazón. Thank you for being here and for joining me on this flavorful journey.
Much love (and buen provecho), Lauren
